We all have a focus on exercise but I think we often forget the importance of what we eat.
Our weight is determined by the energy balance equation;
Gaining weight – you are likely to be eating more energy than you are burning off.
Weight is stable – you are likely eating the same amount of energy as you are burning off.
Weight loss – you are eating less energy than you are burning off.
This all seems simple, however many of us struggle with being the weight that we want.
I am talking being a healthy weight and not the extremes.
In order to eat a healthy diet, we need to eat the rainbow. When you are preparing a meal try to make sure you are including all the colours. If you are making a Sunday lunch why not have carrots, peas, red cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts etc. There are so many vegetables available today from all over the world. Why not try something new today?
Some of the nutritional goodness can be lost from vegetables during the cooking process. In order to keep the vitamins and minerals in the vegetable why not try steaming and/or using the water from steaming or boiling to make sauces. On your Sunday roast use the water you have used to boil the vegetables to make your gravy for example.
